News:
January 15, 2004 - As of today, there might not be any more updates to my program.
As it turns out, the MPman F30 is the exact same player as the RaveMP 2100 and as such, they have already
made a Windows 2000/XP compatible file manager that works a lot better than mine ever will =).
Click here for the mpman homepage, or here for a direct link to the windows 2000/xp
compatible file manager. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted =)

November 14, 2003 - I have discovered a bug with the installer. It appears that if you use
the icons that the installer creates to start the program, it will NOT list any mp3's that are located
in the installation folder. I am looking into this and will release an updated installer along with an updated
version of the software together. However, college work has kept me really busy, and i can not give a date as
when the new installer and software will be available. An estimate would be around december (my winter break)
but don't hold me to it ;)

raveMP 2100 Manager for Windows 2000/XP
=======================================

NOTICE: Since raveMP 2100 Manager is still under development, this documentation
is subject to change. For the latest revisions, go to http://akdjr.8m.com.

Legal Disclaimer
----------------------------------------

This software comes with not warranties/guaranties of any kind. I am not
responsible for any damage to your player through use of this software.

What in the world does this do?
----------------------------------------

The purpose of this software is to provide basic MP3 upload/download
capabilities to/from your raveMP 2100 player. Additionally, you can also
view the contents of your player and delete files - though only MP3's as
of now.
I created this program mainly to provide raveMP support under
Windows 2000 and Windows XP - seeing as the bundled software only works
under Windows 95/98 (and apparently there are no plans for a Windows 2000
or Windows XP version, seeing as Sensory Science no longer exists.)

System Requirements
----------------------------------------

A raveMP 2100 series player with 64 MB memory - currently only 64 MB is supported.
Other memory configurations or different players may not work correctly.

PC running Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Although I've only tested the program under Windows XP, it should work properly on
Windows 2000 as well (since they are basically the same internally). I have not
tested on Windows NT 4 or earlier, and therefore can't guarantee that it will work.
It will definately NOT run on Windows 95/98, in which case, you should be using
the bundled software ;-).

Parallel Port set to ECP mode - unfortunatly, as of right now, the Parallel port
is hard-coded to 0x378. In order for the program to work correctly, the parallel port
must be set to 0x378 and ECP mode in the BIOS. If you have multiple ports, the player
must be connected to the port set to address 0x378. for more info, see below.

How to use
---------------------------------------

In order to use the program, simply start it by double clicking the shortcut either
on your desktop, or from the start menu. The program is divided into two panes -
the left side displays MP3's on your hard drive, the right side displays MP3's on
your player. Each side is automatically refreshed after you perform an operation
(thought the player contents aren't updated at startup). Then just select the files
you want to upload/download and click the appropriate button.

NOTE: Make sure the player is on before you start the program. In my testing,
if the player wasn't on before starting the program, it would have trouble
detecting the player and have trouble transferring files. Unfortunately,
I am still figuring this problem out.

Currently, files are transferred to and from the directory where the software
was installed. I plan to change this as soon as i figure out a better method
of doing so. For your convenience, I would suggest creating a shortcut to the
folder on your desktop.

Other notes - please read!
---------------------------------------

This program was based upon a linux version of the raveMP 2100 transfer
software created by The Snowblind Alliance. You can find this and other
tools at their website: http://www.world.co.uk/sba/. However, they have
since shutdown, so their webpage is outdated.

This program utilizes the free WinIo library to allow direct access to
the parallel port under Windows 2000/XP. You can find this and other
software at their website: http://www.internals.com.

Currently, this program only supports upload/download of MP3's, and only
works with the 64 MB raveMP player (2100 or 2000 series - i forget which
one was the 64 MB version). I plan to add support for more memory, and
all other kinds of files as soon as I figure out how. Unfortunately, this
will take some time, so don't expect it soon.

I do plan on releasing the source code, but not yet, seeing as its quite
ugly and not commented at all. However, if you have any info that could
help me during development, feel free to contact me.

Although the program works best if the parallel port is set to ECP mode,
it might still work even if its in EPP mode. However, i have not tested this,
so its all up to you. It might work, it may not. I give no guaranties.

The parallel port timing is very tempermental. In my testing, if uploading,
downloading, deleting, or listing contents failed, exiting the program,
disconnecting the player, and then starting again worked. Although
it should work for the most part, there are timing issues, and until I
work them out, you will have to work around it. Upload and download
still works though, so if you encounter an error, just try it again.

This is a work in progress, and as such should be considered beta software
until I work out all of the little details.

If you discover any bugs, or think you have any improvments that should
be made, or if you can help me during the development process (as i'm
quite new to playing around with the player and the parallel port), then
contact me at akdjr@softhome.net. You can also go to http://akdjr.8m.com
to get the latest revision of the program.
